Barkada was established in 1983 by Gem Yabut, Butch Yabut, and Ronald Martinez. Starting in 1985, we became one of the six founding organizations within the Santa Clara University Multicultural Center. Today, we are one of the largest student-run cultural clubs on campus.
Our founding members built this club on the same mission we live by today. In Tagalog, the word "Barkada" means "group of friends" which best describes what we aim for as a club. We look to grow our group of friends with fellow Filipinx students at Santa Clara University or students eager to learn about our culture through education, social justice, networking, and social events. Altogether, Barkada creates a safe and welcoming community for our members and those to come.
